Cocodrie Fishing Charters

Private Inshore & Nearshore Fishing in Cocodrie, LA

Most people think of New Orleans or Venice when they think of Louisiana fishing. Cocodrie is the one the locals know about.

Tucked at the southern end of Highway 56, deep in Cajun country, Cocodrie sits right where the marsh meets the Gulf. The bays, islands, and nearshore structure here hold speckled trout, redfish, sheepshead, flounder, black drum, and pompano. And unlike a lot of the coast, you do not have to run far to find them.

AB Charters runs private trips out of Coco Marina with Captain Aaron Benfield. He grew up fishing these waters, learned the area under some of the most experienced guides on the coast, and built his charter business here because the fishing is that consistent. All gear, bait, and fish cleaning included. You just show up ready to fish.

What to Expect

Cocodrie fishes differently than most of the Louisiana coast. The salt water is close. On a calm morning, Captain Aaron can be on speckled trout in 10 minutes from the dock. The outer bays and nearshore islands are a short run. When the south wind pushes water high into the marsh, the redfish get active and sight fishing in the shallows becomes one of the better ways to spend a morning on the water.

The fishery runs year round. Trout and reds are the core of most trips. Come fall, bull reds stage along the coast in numbers that keep the rods bent all day. Sheepshead show up on the nearshore rigs in spring. Flounder, pompano, and black drum fill out the box on the right days.

Captain Aaron adjusts based on conditions. If it is blowing hard from the north, he is behind the islands. If the water is up and calm, he is heading into the marsh. The goal is always the same: put clients on fish.
